////////// circuit bending

Circuit bending is the process of modifying preexisting circuitry to create different output than the designers originally intended. Simple audio circuitry, like toys that produce sound for example, when modified, can create extremely complex, and oftentimes unrecognizable variations of the original sounds.

//////////   FauxAudio

FauxAudio is an ongoing body of work by J.D. Kramer in Dayton, Ohio. I stumbled across the technique of circuit bending on the internet a few years ago when I was researching a way to modify a tape player to play audio at varying speeds.  I was attracted to circuit bent instruments because of the uncommon musical forms they produce.  With circuit bent instruments, the instrument itself can improvise along with the musician, creating truly unique sounds. These instruments offer an entirely new array of sonic possibilities for musicians to explore and incorporate into their music.

If you see a device you like, or if you have an idea for something different let me know - I will be happy to discuss the possibility of commissioned instruments with you.
